Continuity FAQ

First, welcome to BWL and to the Continuity FAQ.

This particular FAQ is dedicated to the many continuity variances of projects with overlapping characters and events.

My stories have greatly expanded beyond my original intentions.  For instance, Boundless tells an alternate universe story compared to Ambition & Honor.  But both stories will share many characters.

For guests to our site – those that may not be familiar with all the variations – this could prove particularly confusing.

There are only one or two original story-lines that will be the actual continuity for most characters.  The characters are original and copyright to myself.  But I will use them in various projects including non-canon and “what if” roles.

This page, therefore, is intended to assist you and identify the distinctions between “universes”.

I will update this page in my spare time, so this may take a while to sort out the entries.  To be updated soon. — The Wildcat.

Answers:

Basic Questions

1. What continuities exist in BWL Projects?

This list may or may not be fully complete as changes are made regularly and new stories are added.

Ambition & Honor – This comic series is the main continuity for my character The Wildcat.  There is actually an as yet [as of 18-12-2014] unnamed comic project that tells of his early years.  A&H is a separate comic series that tells the story of The Wildcat and his teams 400 years later.

Boundless – I’m treating Boundless as a second “real” continuity.  An alternate reality for many of the same characters of A&H.  Many events have changed to create a very different future.

3D: Deniece Damsel of Danger – This is a completely different comic series with separate characters and events.

Errant Pixels  – This comic, though sharing characters with A&H and Boundless, is actually a gag comic.  No continuity is shared here.  In fact, it is more of a plot of online life treated as real life.  The Wildcat – for instance – is more an avatar for me then the character you see in other projects.  Note that this project was originally a VALVe / Half-Life fan project and that we have dropped that idea for more original content to keep the property a BWL Title.

Tactical Insertion – This video project has been through many changes and has yet to formally begin.  It again features many of the same characters but this is a completely different continuity.  Not a “real” continuity, this project may become another alternate reality comic in the future.  Currently, it is a planned GMod or SFM series.

Living With GMod – This video project shares characters with others but is not meant as a “real” continuity.  It’s a less serious project with the concept of the Real World merging with GMod.  Characters here are avatars of our members that have been absorbed into a new GMod world.  This project is currently on hiatus.

Nebulous Dawn – This animation project shares many of the same characters, but is an alternate universe.  This continuity would be one of the few “real” universes.  The series is currently on hiatus.

Disorientation – This GMod series is more of a random comedy / skit show.  the characters here are again avatars for our community members in a manner similar to Errant Pixels.

Conundrum – While sharing characters with many of these projects, Conundrum is a fan-fiction story and not true continuity.  It began as a forum RPG years ago that has long since become a full story of it’s own.  Events and characters from the A&H universe, Forum avatars, and original characters are crossed with Half-Life, D00M, and some other subjects.

Other Projects – For the most part, any other projects are in separate continuities of their own.  If characters cross over from other titles, they are not “real” continuity for those characters.

2. Why do so many BWL Projects have the same characters?

BWL Projects often share characters due to the way they were created.  In many stories, they provided a way to insert community regulars and contributors.  In videos, these characters are often played by their respective community member.  Again, the main continuities for these characters is actually A&H and Boundless.  Everything else is having fun with the characters in a sort of “else worlds” manner.

3. Can I use your characters or continuity in a story of my own?

You may use my characters or continuity in a fan-fiction capacity.  That is, so long as you give me credit for them and do not sell them or use them in “for-profit” capacity of any kind.  Simply put, I retain the rights to my characters and continuity.

These are copyright materials.  Even when used in a fan-fiction like Conundrum or a video series like Living With GMod / Tactical Insertion, I have not nor would I have given up my rights to my own characters.

For my own protection, I have to insist on control over these rights.  Although I would consider leasing rights to my characters or continuity to someone if I believed they would make a worth while product, I would not cede control of said characters or continuity.  Such a lease would have fairly strict regulations in writing and could not be allowed to prevent me from making my own stories, videos, etc.

Keep in mind that other creators at BWL may have their own characters and continuity.  Those characters, unless they made content specifically for BWL, still belongs to them and not myself.  Thus, you must seek permission from them.

Boundless

1. Is Boundless the main BWL Continuity?

No.  In terms of the “primary” BWL Universe, that belongs to the Ambition & Honor series.  Boundless has it’s own universe.

[ Back ]

2. Is StarBOUNDLESS in the Boundless Continuity?

Only in so much as it is a game server / Let’s Play video series that sort of fits in the Boundless story.  Starbound just happens to fit closely enough to Boundless for StarBOUNDLESS to be fun.  But this series and server do NOT actually have a continuity.

3. In Boundless, Wildcat went through a story in his past that was very much like Conundrum.  Are they in the same continuity?

No they are not.

Once again, Conundrum is a fan-fiction cross over and not part of any of my continuities.  Major elements of Conundrum are taken from a plot line I planned to make part of both Boundless’ back-story and the comic series that is the base of A&H’s back-story.

It could also be implemented in other stories as I see fit.

Ambition & Honor

1. Will you explore the back-story of The Wildcat and others?

Yes.  However, the bulk of The Wildcat and other major character back-stories will be explored in a separate but related comic series eventually.

3. Will The Wildcat meet “x character” like he did in other stories?

This is possible.  Certain characters are shared heavily between projects.  However, as each project has it’s own story unless they are actually set in the same universe, character appearances are not guaranteed.

I use my characters and/or change them as I see fit on a story-by-story basis.
