Okay guys, we have another phishing scam making the rounds... again.
This one has been around for a while as there are already a number of forum posts elsewhere that discuss this one in various forms in years past.
I received a couple of emails from
noreply@steampowered.com today. The message claimed that steam had received a reset password request and offered a special key "if needed". This is, of course, all lies.
As far as we have been able to determine [both now and in years past], the only email addresses you need to worry about with steam are
support@steampowered.com and
webmaster@steampowered.com [for a steam forum account only].
I didn't think to view the extended headers on this email address and see who it was really from. Sorry. I was just too busy deleting the emails and blocking further contacts. Be very careful in how you handle such messages as they are an attempt to gain your personal account information.
Valve and steam will never send you an email asking you for your password. And even when you are trying to change a password, be sure that you open your browser manually and go to the steam password change options manually. Never ever try to follow a link in an email asking for such information.
